7 Keys to Running A Successful Business

Dentistry is not a different business model than other businesses. This article is written by a dentist to help him build a successful practice. However, the principles can be applied to any type of business.

Over 20 years I have worked in the dental field and I can proudly state that I own a successful practice. I have learned many things about running a business over the years. There are also many things that don’t work. With this in mind, I offer the following 7 keys for running a successful company: They can be applied to any industry.

  1. Vision is key

A clear vision is essential for any business. What are you looking to be known for? What type of clients would you like? What kind of service do your clients want? Are you looking to be “one of many” or a leader within your industry?

These and other questions will help you to determine the direction your business should take.

  • Create a plan that is tied to the vision
  • Once you have a clear vision, it is time to start planning. Many people don’t have a clear vision of the future, but fail to create a plan. It is important to take the time to plan out how you will achieve your goals.

  • Know your market
  • Knowing your market is one of the most crucial aspects of any business. It is impossible to be everything to everyone. Contrary to popular belief, not everyone is your market. Marketing has a well-known saying: “If everyone’s your market, then nobody is your market.”

It is easier to target people and companies if you have a clear understanding of who they are.

  • Get noticed in your market
  • Focus your efforts on reaching your market. You don’t have to know who your market is just yet. It is important to be able to target your market with a focused approach. You must be willing to maintain your name before your market, whether it is through direct mail, advertising or newsletters.

  • Get your team on board
  • This is one of the most important and often overlooked aspects of running your business. It is important to inform your employees about what is happening. Regular staff meetings are a great way for your team to get buy-in. Be open to new ideas from your team members.

If your team members don’t get your vision or aren’t committed to it, it will be difficult for you to reach your long-term goals. Make sure that you communicate your goals to everyone you hire. No matter if you’re dealing with new or experienced members of your team, all must agree to the plan. You will be more likely to succeed if they are.

  • Be consistent
  • Marketing a business requires constant effort. In almost any industry, the biggest mistake is to try something once and expect instant results. It is essential to stay in the game for the long-term. You may get immediate or direct response with some marketing strategies. It is not the tortoise or the heir with most marketing strategies. It may appear that the heir is the one who is leading, but in David Barrick Brampton reality, he is losing his way and is losing to the tortoise with a long-term and consistent vision.

  • Realize – you change lives
  • Dentistry is one of my favorite professions. I love that I can change lives. This is something I am able to see clearly. It is a great feeling to see my patients achieve the smile they have always longed for because of me.

Regardless of your industry, you can make a difference in the lives of most people. Your job will be very rewarding if you realize this.

Consider the end user of your product/service. What makes your product or service different for them? Ask your customers if you don’t know. You might be surprised. You may be pleasantly surprised by the clarity you get in your vision and the benefits that you offer others through the services you offer.
