On
Sunday March 28, 2010, over
60 volunteers of all ages showed up carrying shovels, saws, rakes,
and spades to help build Windsor Farm located right next to the
Seeley Street bridge on Prospect Ave. Windsor Terrace residents
Tom and Emma Angotti came up with the idea for this new urban
farm on land they bought years ago. As Tom explains, the farm
is intended to show "how small pieces of land like this (about
5,000 square feet) can contribute to local, healthy alternatives
to the industrial food system."

Volunteers
climbed through honeysuckle and blackberry vines to clear land,
bag garbage, pile up dead wood, and create the first two terraced
areas which eventually will be planted with produce. In another
section, an area was dug which will hold a community composter.
Nearby, a group of adults and kids planned and dug a "gutter"
through the soil to divert rainwater and prevent flooding.

Experienced
gardeners were on hand to offer guidance. Even one of Windsor
Terrace's newest residents, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz,
dropped by to show his support and offer encouragement.
Tom
still needs volunteers in the following areas:
- RECORDS
Record-keeping and member list
- COMPOST
Composting leader (organize the composting volunteers)
This project is just starting out so if you would like to help
